West Auckland Memorial Community Association

The Memorial Hall  was built in 1925 as a fitting memorial to the soldiers who lost there lives in the first world war.  Today it is a hive of activity,  and were not just talking about bingo, its also currently used for, carpet bowls, weight watches, womens freemasons,   dog training and by the West Auckland Community Church. West Auckland Walking Group

The west auckland walking group is a very popular group with some 60 walkers on their books. They walkers are an informal group, so are not part of the ramblers ,  but some of the groups walkers have been on walking leaders courses.  They Meet meet every Wednesday morning at 10 am  at the Monteith Close Community centre. There is no formal membership fees or walk fees.  Generally they walk locally around 3 - 5 mile, on there return they would warm up and have tea and biscuits, funds raised for tea and biscuits aids for the rental of the community centre and once per month have a “away day”,  where they would meet at a pre-arranged location. And once a year they have a full away day, pub lunch etc, believed to be around December time
